Police Report – Accidents/Crashes
Where can I pick up a copy of an Accident report?
Copies of Accident reports may obtain a copy of a Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Report (CR-3) by using the TxDOT Crash Report Online Purchase System. Customers using the online system receive their report(s) via email following the purchase. As of January 2023, the cost for a Crash Report is $6, or $8 for a certified copy (an official document often required for legal proceedings, etc.).
Those unable to use the online system may submit a request via email. Please submit an Open Records Request to pdrecords@cityofslaton.com. Please allow your request to be processed within 10 business days (excluding weekends or holidays). Once the report is ready, the Records Department will contact you. You must pick up your report during normal business hours. The cost for an accident report is $6. The Slaton Police Department only accepts cash payments and cannot make change.
Police Report – Incident and Offense
To request a copy of a report or other police record, you may fill out the form below, follow the link to an Open Records Request, or write a written request to our records department at pdrecords@cityofslaton.com. You must provide the date, location, and person(s) involved in the request. Please do not contact the department by phone with your requests; only written requests will be accepted. You may also visit the police department to complete an Open Records Request. You must fill out an Open Records Request or submit a written request and allow 10 business days to complete your request.

What is the cost for a police report?
Incident and Offense reports are available for $0.10 per page. Cash only.
Are police reports available over the Internet?
Incident and Offense reports are not available over the Internet at this time.
Other Reports and Services
Can I obtain driver’s license and criminal history information?
Driver’s license and state and national criminal history information is not available from the Slaton Police Department because of our teletype agreement with the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety in Austin does have this information available, and you can contact them at (512) 424-2000.
Vacation Watch/Close Patrols
Vacation Watch/Close Patrol:
If you are going to be away from your home for several days or if there is a special situation where you would like extra patrol you may request that patrol deputies check your residence periodically. Please fill out the form below.
Vacation Watch/Close Patrol Requirements:
- You must live in the city limits of Slaton.
- Fill out the form at least one day ahead, but no more than 3 days in advance.
Tips to Remember before you Leave:
- Make sure your home looks lived in, not empty.
- Stop mail and cancel deliveries, or have a friend make daily collections.
- Leave shades and blinds in their normal positions.
- Put automatic timers on several lights (with varying schedules).
- Have someone keep your property maintained (mow your yard, for example).
- Leave a key with a trusted neighbor.
- Provide a trusted person with your departure and return dates, and an itinerary with phone numbers so you can be reached in an emergency.
- Lock all windows and doors, including your garage door, before you leave.
- Take garage door openers out of cars left outside.
- Don’t advertise your plans to strangers. That applies to the casual conversation in the grocery check-out line, and what you post on social media.
Patrol Officers will be notified of your absence and the information you provide. As they can during their shifts, they will check your home to see if all is well.

It is expressly understood by the person making this request for Vacation Watch/Close Patrol that the services provided by the Slaton Police Department during the security watch are services provided under the department’s regular law enforcement duties, that this request just notifies the department of the requestor’s absence from the premise or special request. This notification does not create any type of contractual relationship between the requestor and the Slaton Police Department or the City of Slaton. This notification does not mean that the premises will not be subject to criminal acts.

The Slaton Police Department reviews citizen complaints against employees. You may complain about an employee to a supervisor by letter, email, walk-in (during business hours), online, or phone. You must make a complaint within 30 days of the date the misconduct occurred, except in criminal cases. If the allegation involves criminal misconduct, then the statute of limitations for that criminal act applies.
Commendations:
The Slaton Police Department employees love to hear about a job well done. You may give a commendation about an employee to a supervisor by letter, email, walk-in (during business hours), online, or phone.
